On September 30th, 2023, climate activists gathered in the heart of London to protest against the development of Rosebank, the biggest undeveloped oil field in the North Sea. If developed, Rosebank would have devastating consequences for the environment, contributing significantly to global carbon emissions and exacerbating the climate crisis. By extracting and burning the oil from this vast reserve, it would produce more than the combined CO2 emissions of the 28 lowest-income countries. Drilling in such a sensitive area could also lead to oil spills and long-term damage to vulnerable marine ecosystems.
